 
In the spring of 2007 a crowd of 447 seniors converged on Harrison to
participate in the Northwest Arkansas (AAA NW Arkansas) Senior Games’
track, field and fun events. The
Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas sponsors the event each year
and has announced that the 2008 games will be held April 11 – May 10,
2008. The 24th annual senior games will kick off with the women's
8-ball pool
competition on Friday, April 11, and the men's 8-ball pool competition on Friday April
18, at the Boone County Senior Activity Center in Harrison; followed by
the bowling competition on Thursday, April 24 at Cottonwood Bowl in
Harrison; then the big track, field and fun event day will be held at
the Harrison Junior High School on Friday, May 2, 2008. The games
will conclude with the archery tournament on Saturday, May 10 at the
City Park (on the corner of Marilyn and Red Bud Street) in Bull Shoals. |

The competitions will include events for the
serious competitor as well as a host of recreational and fun games including: a wide
variety of walks, dashes, and runs, even a 3K run; shot put, discus, running long jump,
javelin, and standing long jump; dominoes, horseshoes, baggo, daisy air gun,
softball throw, stationary cycling, basketball shoot, spin casting, football throw, nail
pounding, Skip-Bo, and a balloon bust relay. The
competitions
are divided into age groups.
In 2008 medals and ribbons will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
depending on the event.
Over the past few years, a number
of corporations and businesses have become partners, providing financial support for
senior services through their Northwest Arkansas Senior Games sponsorship.
The games are open to people age 50 and older
and pre-registration is required. The registration deadline for the
8-ball pool tournament will be March 28, 2008. For all other
events the registration deadline is April
15, 2008.

Legislature The Silver Haired
Legislative Session is a mock legislature of delegates 60 years of age
and older that has convened every two years since 1978. The session is
held with the permission of the Arkansas General Assembly and sponsored
by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)
Division of Aging and Adult Services in partnership with the Arkansas
Area Agencies on Aging.
The
Silver Haired Legislature program
provides an opportunity for senior Arkansans to:

Learn
about the legislative process and become more effective advocates for
all seniors in the state

Bring the issues and concerns of senior Arkansans to the attention of
the Arkansas General Assembly and the general public

Have legislation passed during the Silver Haired session that may become actual
Arkansas law
The 2008 Silvered Haired Legislature will
